A unique site in the Alsatian Jura

The Site

The buildings

Arriving at the Hotel Morimont, you will be dazzled by the architecture, typical of the region : a tall building surmounted by a steeple dominates a huge farm composed of 4 outbuildings. This farm, operated until the 1960’s, is set harmoniously in the hilly landscape.

This architectural heritage gives style to the hotel : the main building, entirely renovated, houses 10 rooms all with a view on the surrounding landscape or the farm buildings below.

Across is a hugh barn used at the time for storing hay to feed over a hundred heads of cattle.

Next door to the barn, a charming little hut, certainly a henhouse

And finally in the tangle of buildings you’ll find the dairy, converted into 6 six family size rooms. You’ll appreciate the calm and space in this magical setting.

Walking from the farm towards the castle, in the extension of the dairy, you’ll come across the old pigsty, a long and low roofed building that opens on a small stone-walled garden.

This set of buildings is situated some 500 meters from the ruins of the Morimont Castle, the whole forming an outstanding natural heritage.

The vegetal patrimony

The site is indeed magical ! As evidence the incredible oak tree estimated to be over 500 years old on the mountain side across the Morimont valley. Do take time to walk the few kilometres and discover the powerful enchantment of the site. Standing there in the middle of fir trees, the old oak unfolds its branches, beckoning you to hear its fairy tales from times gone by.

If you are on the watch, you’ll come across rare species, like orchids, cumin (caraway) or apple trees endemic to the valley according to some specialists. In season, at the restaurant, you will find cooked blackberries and cherries picked on the domain.

The springs

The specific topography, in which the Hotel stands, offers marshy valleys and a well exposed plateau collecting rain waters and forming an astonishing water reserve that flows to the many springs in the valley.
Among these springs are two tributaries from the Largue and another that supplies the Hotel. Meaning that at the Hotel Morimont, you drink pure spring water, tested regularly.
